EQUIPMENT
Chain collar
Link slip collar used in training. Allows you to correct the dog with different degrees of pressure and allows the dog to self-correct to take pressure off and stay in the safety zone. Best collar brand is Herm Sprenger.
Leash
6’ line attached to the dogs chain collar. The dog has more responsibility to find the 2 foot ‘Safety Zone’ on your left side. Teaches the dog to heel.
Longe Line

NEW VOCUBULARY
Training protocol
Always kennel your dog for at least an hour before working it. The dog should have NO food at least 4 hours prior to the workout and NO water an hour before the workout. When you are done with your workout, do a cool-down time of approximately 12-20 minutes. Offer your dog water when home, then kennel again for a minimum of 30 minutes and/or do quiet time with the dog for 30 minutes.
Daily Training Routine
Days 1 & 2 are done in low distraction levels. Days 3 & 4 are done in medium distraction levels. Days 5 and 6 are done in high distraction levels.
Safety Zone
The position the dog should learn is the safe place to be, that is, always by your left side.
Safety Loop
An amount of leash or Longe Line at the loop end that is gathered as slack in a loop and held in your right hand. You release the full length of this Safety Loop in a right about turn, then gather it up again in your hand and keep going forward.
Ready Position
When the loop on your Longe Line is on your right thumb with a Safety Loop and your hands are stacked at your waist, right fist on top.
Stack your Hands
The position when both hands hold the Longe Line and your right fist is stacked on top of your left fist at your waist. Part of the Ready Position used for Longe Line training.
Walk the Line
To gain immediate control of a dog on the Longe Line, walk on the line on the ground until you get to the snap bolt.

NEW EXERCISES
Quiet Time (QT)
Teaches the dog to learn to relax in the face of distractions. The dog should lie quietly on the floor, of its own choosing, at your left side for 30 continuous minutes. Dog is wearing properly fitted chain collar and 6’ leash when doing QT
Inverted Longe Line (ILL)
Working dog on a Longe Line back and forth in a makeshift alley. Easiest way to introduce the principles of Longe Line as the dog is working within the perimeters of an alley. Provides a smaller area for the dog to learn to experience the comfort of the Safety Zone. Always done on soft ground surfaces, never on asphalt or concrete.
Longe Line (LL)
Working dog on a Longe Line in an open area, approximately 75 yards by 75 yards. Choose a Point A and a Point B. Dog learns to choose to remain in the Safety Zone despite wide open spaces and distractions.
Cool Down
The cool-down is a casual, non-working, non-playing time, just a casual stroll of about 12-20 minutes. Using a Longe Line, give your dog their release word, drop the Longe Line on the ground or hold the handle end in your left thumb beside your body, and move naturally as you stroll.
