HOMEWORK Week 4: Footwork = steps to help your dog heel well

Again, this is a reminder.

It's tough enough remembering which foot tells the dog to 'GO' = left and which foot tells the dog to 'STAY' = right foot. But, for those of you students that really want to help your dog succeed, practice these steps, without your dog, until you can do them in your sleep. Notice how small and tight these steps are? They are on a poster sized paper and they are very short, tiny steps.  WHY? Because a dog has a much better opportunity to 'read your feet' when your footwork is correct AND your steps are small and/or short. Small, short steps prevents lagging and the need for over-correction on your part.

Have fun practicing-:)  Took me years to figure these steps out so sharing and hoping you will want to improve yourself so you and your dog work as a team.

Get better. Get smooth. Get to where these mechanics are automatic. This is how to achieve success.

What to do?
PRACTICE YOUR HEELING WITH FIDO
PRACTICE YOUR TURNS WITH FIDO
PRACTICE YOUR MECHANICS WITH FIDO

Where?
Everywhere. In public places, at work, EVERYWHERE.

When?
All the time.

How?
Speak softly the commands outloud.
Remember to PRAISE your good Fido

WHY WORK FIDO?

Because then when you work your dog,
your mechanics are smooth.
