Week 3 EXAM # 1: Body Bend Readiness Test examples

Please submit a video of your dog doing the Body Bend Test which is your Day 17. Remember, you should use an OUT! if dog knocks one over. Why? Because it is the dogs responsibility to be aware of and take control of where its body is at all times. This is a method used to teach Seeing Eye dogs to be inside a building, NOT to disturb anything they come in contact with, and to be cognizant of correct heel position. It is a terrific way to teach a dog finesse in heeling position without corrections.

Yes, you can practice this test before you submit your Test. The PVC pipes are located every 4'. Do make a grid, such as you see in these videos, of the PVC pipes.

Needed for Week 3 Body Bend Readiness Test:
  • Two + minutes of video including 5 Auto Sits (yes you can cue the dog with your Sit hand mechanics (no verbal),
  • heeling pattern any which way you choose but mix it up and make it interesting for the dog,
  • Sit/Stay @ nose-to knees for 1 minute.
  •  Do a Stand for 30 seconds as you continually also do the Relaxation Stroke
.

Moxie
This was a new location for Mox to work. Snowing, wind blowing, silly PVC pipes sticking up to work around, wind blowing over the PVC pipe and ground starting to freeze. Mox looks longingly at her owner's car and wonders, "When do I get to come inside to a warm place?" Still, we worked through the distractions hoping to get a video before the bulk of the snowstorm hits tonight.

The end for Mox. She is cold and done. I am cold and done. The ground is beginning to ice. Brrr.
Time to clean up.

Red - please note I use this layout of pipes only because I don't have the room I need for the 3 x 3 grid

Have fun.  Once you understand how this exercise helps your dog maintain heel position w/o a correction, you will love this exercise. I do and use it all the time to polish a dog's heeling.
