Place
Days 1 & 2
Done 20 x a day, 5 x on each side. There is no correction for Place. If/when the dog gets off the Place Board, simply repeat the command, "Place" and do whatever it takes to get dog back up on Place
Board. *Important - this is 1/2 times in the entire Koehler training, you CAN repeat the command*
Start close to each side to send dog and use the bridging word "Yes" once the dog has 1 or 2 feet on the board. As soon as dog is on Place Board, back away from the dog. This puts the responsibility on the dog to maintain physical self-control (within the defined Place Board boundaries). This teaches the dog that it can be away from handler and still follow the given command.
There are three (3) ways to get a dog off the Place Board. Use only 1 until Week 5. They are as follows:
(1) Dogs name, release word. Ex: "Fido, ok"
(2) A Return to Your Dog, then heel the dog off the board, Halt and an Auto Sit.
(3) A Random Recall

This time you will use your Negative Space on top of your Place Board. This is harder as the Negative Space can move or shift. What is important for the dog to learn is that the PVC Negative Space won't hurt it AND the dog will learn to manage its own body by stepping over PVC Negative
Space. We will be doing a great deal of training with PVC pipes so it is easier for the dog to learn now to work around or in this case stepping over the PVC Negative Space.

Days 5 & 6

Board. *Important - this is 1/2 times in the entire Koehler training, you CAN repeat the command*
This time you will use your Negative Space on the ground surface. This is hardest for the dog to learn as the ground surfaces now are exactly the same, the only difference is the dog has had 80 repetitions to learn that "Place" means go to a designated space and remain there until instructed otherwise.
