Please do a heeling test, very much like the Vickster's Test pattern, but attach the snap bolt to a loop of string (recommend plain thread or quilting thread) attached to the live ring of the collar.
Include 15' of straight line heeling, Right Turn, Left Turn (if you want you can add the Left About Turn but not required), About Turn, and Auto Sits. Do a Sit/Stay for 1 minute, a Stand (supported with stroking) for 1 minute, and a 2 Downs. Remember your Exercise Finishes after every Sit, Stand or Down.
You may talk to your dog throughout this test. The point is that the dog is ready for off-leash by NOT breaking the string. Submit a video of the test and at the end of the test - break the string on the video. Here is an example.
Arctic Blast for Maryland
It was, and still is, brutally cold today.
I felt bad for Mox as I couldn't figure out why?#@!? she kept breaking her Sit/Stays. Groan, the ground is terribly cold and uncomfortable. Sigh. I apologized to Mox for my thoughtlessness. After her String Test and a nice nap, I did a 2nd workout outside. She is heeling wide of me so I utilized a tree and some other items as heeling posts. Also worked on her Auto Sits. Then I did more Sit/Stays, but this time, I put a small pad on the cold ground and she did much better.
So cold..you can't bear to be outside for long. The wind chill and Arctic blast made 9 degree weather feel like -1 today. |

An update from Dr. Negola, her vet, is that her ACL is still slightly inflamed. So, Mox gets Rimadyl as she continues to work. She has dropped 2 lbs and is looking MUCH slimmer/healthier as a result of the steady exercise she gets 6 days a week. Her neck has healed beautifully, but still, we keep working her with her lovely pink polar fleece headband. Somehow, it fits her. Hahaha - maybe, just like being kenneled for an hour is her cue I am coming and she gets to work soon, the pink polar fleece headbands cues her also?
Anyway, here are the videos from her String Test today.
