Students,
You need to take the time to 'proof' your Stays and now that we into Week 5, here is the 'correction' for a broken Stand.
Tony Ancheta, head of Koehler Dog Training states this about the Stand/Stay "The "correction" for the stand is to slap the belly of the dog for trying to move out of it. In other words, you aren't 'correcting' for the stand, you will be punishing for trying to move out of it. This is why we take two weeks (14 days) in placement and positive reinforcement - staying real close to the dog [and so able] to foil any attempt for him to move out of it.
Generally, when the student is really attentive to the task of relaxing the dog in the stand in week three and four, there is no need for the stand "correction" beyond days one and two of week five."
So, in this video, you will hear a surprise yelp from Boaz as I do slap his belly for breaking the Stand/Stay and lift him back into the Stand. I also slap a leg for moving.
