HOMEWORK Week 4: The Left About Turn - oh so fun!

This is the most fun turn of all to learn. Dogs and owners love it!  More importantly, it is a way to teach the dog 'to find' heel position while moving. It is also pre-conditioning for the Finish which is taught in Week 5.

Best place to do this is on a raised platform (what you will see used in these videos) or heading into a 90 degree corner as when you turn, there is no where for the dog to go, except bump the wall or  hurry up and find you. They will either avoid stepping off the platform and/or avoid hitting the 90 degree corner so they learn quickly to 'find heel' position ASAP.

Here is a video with Sugar - who is quite polished about the Left About Turn.

Here is a video of Red, Sugar's dam, who is not so polished and she needs extra help. On the 2nd Left About Turn, Red actually does a 270 degree reverse swing and I end up 'winching' which is moving her back to where she needs to be to succeed. To help her understand, the next time as I do the Left About Turn, I add a soft "Heel" so she remembers what side of me(left side)is where she should be. I make sure and praise her for understanding and you can both hear and see my soft praise with Red.
