Week 4 Cliff Notes The Recall to SSIF

RECALL TO SSIF (Straight Sit In Front)

This exercise is to introduce the SSIF (Straight Sit In Front) as part of the formal Recall.

This is the first time your dog has had a single exercise (Sit/Stay) now strung together with a new command, “Fido, Come” to create a new exercise, the Recall.

This is the first time we will teach a dog to 'string a series of commands' to create a new command. This is the first time, the dog learns that the last command given is now superseded with a new command.

This is the introduction to the Recall. To teach the Recall the dog has to know 6 things.
  1. How to hold a Sit/Stay
  2. It’s name
  3. Who you are
  4. How to get to you
  5. What to do when it gets to you
  6. The bridging word, “Yes”

Sequence
  • Use any aisle or alley, such as a hall in your home, or create an alley.
  • Command sequence:
    • “Fido”
    • “Come”
    • “Yes”
    • “Sit”
    • “Good dog”
  • Stand up tall and straight on the Recall, DO NOT bend over and bow to your dog.
  • You may have to pull the dog to you, this is okay at this point.
  • Step back to your dog and do an Exercise Finish.

The dog is learning to listen, to wait for the new command, and to then follow the new command which supersedes the prior command. For the first time, we are stringing commands together to form a new command.
