Week 5 EXAM # 1: The Vickster's Test

You may talk to your dog in this test. Please note the leash is looped loosely around your shoulders for this test so no leash corrections at all.
You are to do a heeling pattern, include straight line heeling of at least 15', Right Turns, Left Turns and About Turns (no Left About Turn).

Include the following:

  • At least 5 Auto Sits and use your hand signal to help the dog do Sits.
  • A Sit/Stay @ 6' for 3 minutes (the leash is then held in your hand as you normally do)
  • A Stand (beside your dog and yes you may stroke dogs shoulders as you have been doing) for 1 minute
  • A Sit/Stay @ 6' for 1 minute (the leash is then held in your hand as you normally do)
  • Two Downs (remember to use your left palm up to the sky as the hand signal to the dog).
  • Do 10 Exercise Finishes, one after every Sit, Stand or Down

Remember, your dog has more time, experience, and understanding of the Auto Sit than anything else at this point so doing more of them will help the dog succeed.  Praise for every Sit
Praise and yes, of course, you can talk to your dog and encourage as you are heeling.

I am looking to see if the dog can 'read your feet' and also 'read your hand signals' without any pressure from the leash.

Dog must pass this test before taking the String Test.
